My Eternight Review

Finished Eternights an hour ago and have to say, I’m a bit disappointed. It was more Indy than I was expecting, it being featured in 2 PS State of Plays.

The Game itself was fluid and I encountered no bugs, but it felt like the whole thing was unpolished or not given enough time (and if I remember correctly they already pushed back the launch date at the time).

The Game world itself gave a strange vibe to me (pictured itself in the current time, but had futuristic devices or design elements in it), the characters felt a little distant, unrealistic and not fully worked out. The game pacing was off too, with it being kinda stop and go, sometimes I felt rushed and sometimes it lingered too long in one place…
And I haven’t even talked about the most disappointing part: The Combat System
Again, I can see where they wanted to go with it, but it’s neither deep enough nor varied enough nor any fun. It gives the illusion that the attacks matter but that very soon wears off.

On to the good parts:
The Animation in the more important cutscenes looks great, the voice acting from the girls and guys is mostly good (why didn’t they voice the main protagonist though?) and the dating sim elements were character specific, too. (But again, I wish they would’ve included 1 or 2 more acts so that you could have more of those to get to know everyone better)

All in all, it was an okayisch game, not great but I didn’t feel like I wasted my time with it. I would recommend getting it on a sale though, full price feels hard to justify.
